A couple things worth noting. There's more to the plot than 'Young people go to dark place get chased by demons', and this is from John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle, the team behind Devil, The Poughkeepsie Tapes, and Quarantine, all of which have redeeming qualities.
What's really interesting is the Dowdles have 'The Coup' up next, starring Lake Bell, Pierce Brosnan, Owen Wilson. Obviously a step into the mainstream, which helps in thinking 'As Above, So Below' might be a cut above.
