Directed by David Gordon Green, with a script (from the novel by Larry Brown) by Gary Hawkins.
This clip works. Title, 'Joe', not so much and this won't draw a crowd, but it doesn't need to as it's a low budget gig.
Reviews skew positive, though I've avoided reading any. This is the kind of story I want to go into cold, especially considering it comes from a novel, which usually means deeper subtext, more subtle theme.
I get the feeling this is Green's true calling. We might see more of the same from him. His next film, 'Manglehorn', about an ex-con trying to go straight, certainly sounds similar. This one will star Al Pacino and Holly Hunter -- not bad.
'Joe' could be popular as a rental. I'll check it out.
