Spanish Poster For 'The Quiet Ones'

'The Quiet Ones' Clip
Has just the right feel visually, what with the old film flicker, but the audio has too much dynamic headroom for a super-8 magnetic recording. I know they were going for the shock effect but it takes me out of the movie.
Not that it matters. Looks good.

New 'Quiet Ones' Trailer
Liking Hammer's return. Both 'Let Me In' and 'The Woman in Black' are glossy productions. New trailer for 'The Quiet Ones' looks assured.
It seems like the characters hear and react to the pounding that starts at :38. The motif is quoted from the classic Robert Wise 1963 film 'The Haunting', which scared the hell out of a lot of kids back then. One of the most effective horror sound effects ever done.

'Quiet Ones' Poster
Coming from the revitalized Hammer studio and the producers of 'The Woman in Black' and 'Let Me In', 'The Quiet Ones' has potential. Trailers have skewed gory for my taste, seeming to aim a tad low, at least for an atmospheric creep-fest, but this first poster gets the campaign back on track.

Maintains The Status Quo, Now Show Us A Monster
As a teaser this does little more than maintain the status quo. That's not a negative considering many trailers are so bad they effectively end the movie's chances. So, we're neither eager to see this movie but we don't dismiss it, either. Just so.
'The Quiet Ones' has good things going for it. Production value will make this a strong rental. A fairly cool hook -- what if you could create ghouls just by thinking of them -- should entice audiences to the theater. The setting -- Oxford University in 1974, is just right. Pedigree -- Lionsgate and Hammer know what they're doing.
There looks to be some strong work with actors by director John Pogue and camera/editing look fine. In the writing department Craig Rosenberg holds his own (I imagine), however it's Oren Moverman (I'm Not There, The Messenger, Rampart) that gets my attention. That's some serious chops.
All in all this is looking pretty good. The teaser has done a competent job and, if the full trailer delivers, 'The Quiet Ones' will be set up nicely. We've got the premise, we're paying attention, now we need to see the bad guy.
