As a teaser this does little more than maintain the status quo. That's not a negative considering many trailers are so bad they effectively end the movie's chances. So, we're neither eager to see this movie but we don't dismiss it, either. Just so.
'The Quiet Ones' has good things going for it. Production value will make this a strong rental. A fairly cool hook -- what if you could create ghouls just by thinking of them -- should entice audiences to the theater. The setting -- Oxford University in 1974, is just right. Pedigree -- Lionsgate and Hammer know what they're doing.
There looks to be some strong work with actors by director John Pogue and camera/editing look fine. In the writing department Craig Rosenberg holds his own (I imagine), however it's Oren Moverman (I'm Not There, The Messenger, Rampart) that gets my attention. That's some serious chops.
All in all this is looking pretty good. The teaser has done a competent job and, if the full trailer delivers, 'The Quiet Ones' will be set up nicely. We've got the premise, we're paying attention, now we need to see the bad guy.
