The second I saw this poster (and release date of 10/10), and found out who's in 'The Judge' (Robert Downey Jr., Vincent D'Onofrio, Billy Bob Thornton, Vera Farmiga, Robert Duvall) I couldn't wait to see it.
Then, I found out David Dobkin (some TV, The Wedding Crashers, Fred Claus) directed from a script by Nick Schenk (some TV, and either story and/or script for Gran Torino) I was taken aback.
Then, I saw the trailer and couldn't believe my eyes. Plays like a movie-of-the-week from the 80s.
All that said, I still wonder what this has under the hood. If reviews are good I'll check this out on disc. Otherwise, the only reason I'll see this will be to keep up in movie conversations. (Okay, if I'm being honest I want to see those performances. If the direction, music, cinematography, and plot all add up to pure product in a style that died years ago, I still want to see these actors deliver this story).
I thought we didn't have Oscar bait aimed at older audiences anymore. Guess I was wrong. Will be interesting to see how this does.
A lot of people have written 'The Judge' off, but a lot can't wait to see it.
