When a man's wife writes terribly on-the-nose 'feelings' like "I might disappear" and "I'm afraid of my husband" and "This man might kill me" in her diary then...disappears without a trace, is that a setup? Is the husband being framed for murder?

This from the Wikipedia entry for Gillian Flynn's novel:

Gone Girl's themes are dishonesty, the devious media, and the unhappiness that comes with a troubled economy. The characters lie to each other and the reader about affairs and disappearances. Amy even makes a fake diary to falsely implicate her husband for her disappearance and murder.

'Fake'. Is it? Really?

Haven't read the novel but the trailer for 'Gone Girl' is cool, dark, measured, complex. Everyone with strange agendas. I wouldn't watch this at the theater because I'd want to savor it with lots of pauses (to think), and a nice bottle of wine (to drink).
