By all appearances 'Girl on a Bicycle' should be one of those European charmers in the vein of 'Amelie', etc. The trailer is lovely, the poster is a winning throwback, even the title has that 50s swing, but the reviews...oh, the reviews.
Currently scoring 8% on the Tomatometer. Sheri Linden at LAT says:
If it had an ounce of buoyancy, "Girl on a Bicycle" might qualify as a diverting piffle. But Jeremy Leven's attempt at old-school romantic comedy, set in a postcard-pretty tourist's vision of Paris, is more of a foolish plod than a weightless rollick.
And, yes, they're pretty much all like that. But, on to that irresistible trailer I mentioned. Plays on a couple screens in NY and LA.
